How to Pack and Stay Fashionable When Traveling With Kids

Taking time out of your busy life to travel is important, but making plans for where to go, how you’ll get there, and what you’ll eat along the way can consume most of your planning time. It’s easy to overlook packing a wardrobe that will make you look and feel your best when you’re away from home. If you’re taking the kids with you, this can be even more of a challenge because you want to ensure you have everything they’ll need, too. Here are four tips to help you pack and stay fashionable on your trip.

Create a Capsule Wardrobe

You might be asking yourself, “What is a capsule wardrobe?” If you’ve never heard of this, let me explain. A capsule wardrobe is a collection of some of your most basic clothing. Think jeans and t-shirts, dresses and skirts, and solid colors. You want to keep it simple with your capsule wardrobe. Choose clothing that can easily be mixed and matched to create different outfits. Each item you bring should fit with more than one of your other pieces.

You can create a capsule wardrobe for the kids, too. This not only makes packing easier, it makes choosing what to wear while you’re traveling easier. Take the stress out of packing and stay fashionable with a capsule wardrobe.

Keep It Simple

Keep your travel wardrobe simple. Choose solid colors that can be worn together. In fact, picking a color pallette for your travel attire is a great way to make sure that all of your pieces will look good together, no matter the occasion. Jeans look great with many tops, so pack at least a pair or two. Dresses are also perfect for a travel wardrobe since they don’t have to be matched up with other pieces.

Pack Early

Try to pack your wardrobe early. This will help make preparing for your travels much less stressful. If you’ve got your things ready days in advance, you will have more time to focus on getting your kids packed and gathering other details for the trip. This also gives you an opportunity to make last minute changes or add things if you’ve forgotten something.

Consider the Weather

Weather is often unpredictable, so be sure to include layers, light jackets or sweaters, to ensure you’re ready for anything. However, don’t over do it. Pack items that can be layered to adjust your outfit for the weather. You can’t plan for everything, but looking ahead at forecasted weather conditions can really help you determine what you need to pack.

Having clothes for all weather isn’t realistic when you travel, so just pack for the expected weather conditions. Using a styling service can be helpful for finding the right layers, as well as pieces for events you might enjoy during your travel.

Don’t let packing for your travels give you added stress. Taking a trip should be fun and you want to look great no matter where you go. Use these tips to help you prepare for your upcoming trip.
