3 Ways To Stay Cool When Outside In The Summer

If you live in a hot climate, it can seem almost unbearable to be outside in the heat of the day. Because of this, many people choose to simply spend their summer in the comfort of their car or home that’s equipped with air conditioning. But luckily, with the right knowledge and planning, you can keep yourself cool even when you’re outside and exposed to some of the elements of summer.

To show you how this can be done, here are three ways to stay cool when outside in the summer.

Feed Yourself Correctly

What you eat can have a big impact on how hot your body gets when you’re outside.

According to Alex Aronson, a contributor to Good Housekeeping, eating things that contain foods like garlic, ginger, coconut oil, brown rice, and cayenne pepper can all cause your body temperature to rise. Because of this, if you plan on spending any time outside when it’s hot out, be sure that you avoid foods that contain these ingredients so that you don’t have to worry about your body temperature going higher than it already is with being outside in the heat.

Focus On Certain Body Parts

When you’re trying to stay cool when outside in the heat, the best way to accomplish this is to focus on keeping strategic parts of your body as cool as possible.

Christine Hauser, a contributor to the New York Times, shares that the most important parts of your body to keep cold if you’re wanting to stay cool when outside are your wrists, neck, armpits, and groin. To keep these areas cool, try using cold compresses or even ice on these areas to get them cooler than the rest of your body. When you do this, you should be able to feel your body temperature drop and the entire environment you’re in become a little cooler to you.

Stay Hydrated

In addition to eating foods that will help to keep your body cooler, you also need to be concerned with drinking enough in order to keep yourself properly hydrated.

According to Markham Heid, a contributor to Men’s Health, if you’re even slightly dehydrated, it’s much harder for your body to regulate its temperature and cool yourself off if you prove to get too hot. Because of this, you should aim to drink more water when you’re outside in the heat than you normally would on your average day.

To see if you’re being properly hydrated, Heid advises that you check the color of your urine to see if it’s a pale yellow rather than a darker yellow color.

If you’re needing to find some ways to keep cool when outside this summer, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you do this.
