3 Tips For Preparing For Liposuction

If you have fat stores on your body that you just can’t seem to get rid of on your own, liposuction might be a great option for you. However, because liposuction is a form of surgery, it’s important that you take it seriously and come into this medical situation with your eyes fully opened to what having liposuction means.

So to help you discover if liposuction is going to be a good decision for you, here are three tips for preparing to undergo liposuction as part of cosmetic surgery.

Know If You’re A Good Candidate

The first thing you’re going to have to determine as you’re contemplating having liposuction done is whether or not you’d actually be a good candidate for this type of surgery.

According to Dr. Catherine Hannan, a contributor to Healthline.com, those who are good candidates for liposuction generally aren’t people who are overweight or obese, nor should they have a lot of excess skin. Additionally, the more skin elasticity you have and the more muscle tone to your body, the better candidate you become. And finally, you should be in good overall health and physical fitness in order to be considered a good candidate for liposuction.

Answer All Of Your Doctor’s Questions Truthfully

When you’re trying to determine whether or not you’re a good candidate for liposuction or if this surgical choice is going to be right for you, speaking with a board-certified plastic surgeon can be very helpful.

As you consult with a surgeon, PlasticSurgery.org advises that you answer all of your doctor’s questions candidly and truthfully. The questions you’re asked might include information about your smoking or drinking habits as well as any medications you’re taking, all of which can have a big impact on your surgical outcome. So before you think about withholding or downplaying information in order to have liposuction, really consider if a potentially bad outcome would be worth it to you.

Come With The Right Expectations

Once you’ve determined that you’re a good candidate for liposuction and you’re ready to schedule your surgery date, it’s important that you approach this procedure with the right expectations.

According to the Mayo Clinic, liposuction is not going to be able to help with any cellulite dimpling that you already have or improve upon any other skin irregularities. Along this same vein, liposuction also won’t reduce the appearance of stretch marks. So if you were hoping to have liposuction to address any of these issues, you should speak with your surgeon and ensure that your expectations are in line with what liposuction can actually do for your body.

If you’re thinking about having liposuction, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you prepare for this physically and emotionally.
