Vampires, Angels, Vikings…Oh my! #DeadlyAngel 4.5 by @SandraHillAuth

Christmas in Transylvania Button 300 x 225Before I get to the review, and in complete respect to the fans of the Deadly Angels series and the author, I would never have picked this book up on my own. Because it is my first in the series I have read, I will not truly be able to do it justice. The premise looked good so I jumped onto the tour. With that said, bare with me because this is not something I would read on my own.

For the first time ever the leader of the Viking Vampire Angels, Vikar Sigurdsson, has been talked into celebrating a traditional Christmas! The tree has been decorated, the gifts have been wrapped and the stockings have been hung. And that’s mistletoe, not cobwebs hanging from the ceiling of the creepy castle full of vangels…really!

The icing on the vampire cookie comes when vangel Karl Mortensen rescues Faith Larson, a battered young waitress, from her abusive boyfriend and hides her in the castle amidst the Christmas chaos. But what Karl thought was a frail young teenager is actually a very tempting woman. And she thinks his fangs are sexy!

But a strange “Christmas visitor” at the castle and demon vampires up to their old tricks could threaten the budding romance between Karl and Faith. It’s an impossible match: a human and a vangel, but Christmas is a time for magic.

Karl and Faith don’t stand a chance…

Wow, just wow! I should really read synopsis before I agree to read the book! No, this is not going to be one of those reviews, honestly. The book was fun and Ms. Hall is a technically clean writer. Welcome to the world of Vangels. They are Viking Vampire Angels, yep! No, not Valkeries, because these bad boys the series fans have been introduced to are male vikings. Without going into the details on the other four books, lets say you really need to be able to suspend your belief and not have any working knowledge of Norse mythology or you will twitch. It took me a few tries to get the book started.

I love novellas and have discussed how difficult it is for many authors to successfully pull them off. I don’t think this was one of the most successful. It was not the worst I have read nor the best. For the sake of the writing, the novella structure rated a solid three with me. The writing, as mentioned, is a solid four. As every one of her fans can attest, she has a good grasp at not taking anything too seriously in her books. They are delightfully fun. Which is exactly why anyone who is looking for a fun book to get in the mood for the holidays and are still clinging to Halloween, should go grab the book. Christmas in Transylvania is just the ticket!.

Over all, if you can put aside the cockamamie premise, plot filled with stereotypical male and female character-arcs, you will enjoy the read. I think the author is poking fun at a few things here, and I really dig that. The fact this 1000 year old vampire is being forced to celebrate a pretty new Holiday, at least for him, with all the ho-ho-hos and sugar plums, is pretty funny. I had to stop yelling at myself every time I read about the viking vampire vientnam war vet and just enjoy the good time it offers. Just let it go and have a ball! Christmas in Transylvania is a great hook for Sandra Hall’s popular series. Just not me. I cannot get past Vampire Angels err Vangels, but that’s just me!
