Get-Even-with-bacon

What an exciting thing on have happen on your birthday!! Such an amazing cover too. Everyone welcome Gretchen to the blog for her fist visit! I am going to admit I have three of her books on my Kindle and I have yet to read them, I think my TBR is more out of control. It’s these lovely little cover reveals, book blasts and tours that remind me to read what I have! Oh, and now I have another one to add to my wishlist!

Gretchen has such an interesting bio! She is a a former coloratura soprano, a versatile author and currently is a fancy pants kind of clown in LA.  I wonder, Gretchen? Are you going to perform at your own party? OK OK kidding *headdesk* I apologize I am such a bad girl, make me where the clown nose and I promise to behave. In fact, not just behave but I am going to give you a recipe for your birthday too. A little bit of epicness with bacon and the healthy aspects of zucchini to cancel out the bacon heart damage..then the creme cheese to bind them!

GetEven

Follows the secretive exploits of four high school juniors – Kitty, Olivia, Margot and Bree – at an exclusive Catholic prep school.

To all outward appearances, the girls barely know each other. At best, they don’t move in the same social circles; at worst, they’re overtly hostile.

Margot Mejia – academically ranked number two in her class, Margot is a focused overachiever bound for the Ivy League.

Kitty Li – captain of the California state and national champion varsity girls’ volleyball team, she’s been recruited by a dozen colleges and has dreams of winning an Olympic gold medal.

Olivia Hayes – popular star of the drama program, she’s been voted “most eligible bachelorette” two years running in the high school yearbook and has an almost lethal combination of beauty and charm.

Bree Deringer – outcast, misfit and the kind of girl you don’t want to meet in a dark alley, the stop sign red-haired punk is a constant thorn in the side of teachers and school administrators alike.

Different goals, different friends, different lives, but the girls share a secret no one would ever guess. They are members of Don’t Get Mad, a society specializing in seeking revenge for fellow students who have been silently victimized by their peers. Each girl has her own reason for joining the group, her own set of demons to assuage by evening the score for someone else. And though school administration is desperate to find out who is behind the DGM “events”, the girls have managed to keep their secret well hidden.

That is until one of their targets – a douchebag senior who took advantage of a drunk underclassman during a house party, videotaped it on his phone, and posted it on YouTube – turns up dead, and DGM is implicated in the murder.

Now the girls don’t know who to trust, and as their tenuous alliance begins to crumble, the secrets they’ve hidden for so long might be their ultimate undoing.

Mama’s Kitchen Mondays

A recipe worthy of the cover and this birthday. This is a ninja bacon recipe! Disguised as something healthy, in fact my sorority girl handbook states if you add one healthy thing to something which is taste worthy and delicious, all calories are no longer applicable, just yummilicious amazing goodness! Drink it with a Bacon Bloody Mary, vodka has less calories and if you use V-8, that is a wholes day worth of vegetables!

Bacon Surprise Zucchini Wraps
Total time:
Ingredients
  • 2-3 large zucchinis or winter squash
  • 8-ounces cream cheese (room temp)
  • 10 strips of thing center cut bacon
  • 10 toothpicks (soak in water)
  • course ground pepper
  • extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
  1. Cook the bacon to a just finished limp state (if you are cooking under the broiler, cook it till right before it crisps). Drain on paperbags or baking rack. And cool in the fridge.
  2. Meanwhile, cut your zucchinis up into 10 long slices. Lay slices of zucchini on a cookie sheet side by side.
  3. Place a chilled piece of bacon on top of each slice of zucchini.
  4. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese over each slice of bacon.
  5. Roll each one up and secure using a toothpick. Move to fridge and chill 30-60 minutes.
  6. Brush each roll with olive oil & dash the pepper to taste (you can also do light basil or other herbs with a bite but no salt)
  7. Transfer each roll from your cookie sheet to your grill and heat on medium high for 5-7 minutes each side or until the zucchini is full grilled and the bacon looks cooked.
  8. Remove from grill. Let cool for a few minutes and serve.
  9. *To avoid cheese leakage, make sure you only spread a thin layer of cream cheese on top of the bacon. To much will cause leakage and can leave you with quite a mess.
  10. *We grill all year long, even in -30F weather. If you are doing this inside you can throw this under the broiler with the shelf placed on the second from the top (NOT the top rack). Keep watch or it will cook to fast. This is why you pre-cook the bacon almost crisp because the zucchini will brown just right.
