Dixie Divas and a chilled glass of Sweet Tea (review and a recipe)

Posted by on Feb 27, 2012 in Books, Cabin Cooking, DIY Basic Recipes, Reviews | 1 comment

It has been one heck of a crazy weekend at the cabin. I have had my website have things magically disappearing, (I would like to blame the squirrels in the eves but I think it was me not paying attention to a line of code!) Geoff playing a new video game that has me ready to tear my hair out with all the gunfire, a cat that will not stop yowling for attention for no reason (we give her attention, she is just a bitch) and frankly I have lost perspective and needed to regroup, so I put on my best bonnet and grabbed my Kindle and reread the first in this fun and fantastic series because I needed to remember why I love reading! So everyone grab a mason jar and pass it this way, the sweet tea is on me! (You didn’t think I would forget a recipe now would you?)

journaling, exhibitionism and peeping toms…today’s blogging world

Posted by on Feb 24, 2012 in Cabin Commentary, Entertainment, Writing | 6 comments

This morning as I lay snuggled under my blankets my brain started thinking about why I blog more than I journal. I used to write in my journal at least three times a day, in fact I have several different journals from Dream journals, to book ideas, haiku and poetry journals and therapeutic journals to help with my inner demons.

I had a thought pop into my pre-coffee brain about blogging vs. traditional journaling and how I am not the only one that has been remiss in this habit. When did that become something we USED to do? Sure I still write, with a real pen that has ink even, in a journal. But I also know that being a tad of an exhibitionist

Beautiful Northern Lights Get Lit by Science! (Cabin Commentary and story)

Posted by on Feb 21, 2012 in Alaska Living, Cabin Commentary, News, Photos | 2 comments

My first winter here I was overwhelmed by these beautiful dancing lights in the sky. Each day as we drove home from work we experienced all the gorgeous colors. I was especially excited when the pink and orange ribbons began sometime in mid December. It was outstanding, overwhelming and spiritual. These days all it takes is stepping onto my porch and walking a bit up the roads so I can see above the tree line of the ridge. With no light pollution in the woods I am really blessed. I can see how the Alaskan Native Eskimo Tribe believed their legends about the Lights:

I may surprise you with what “Love of Food” means to me!

Posted by on Feb 19, 2012 in Books, Guest Posts, Indie Projects & Promotions, Writing | 3 comments

I was approached earlier this month and asked to submit a 200 word piece with just the teaser “Love of Food”. Yes chuckle my friends, it is only an obvious choice to ask this Tundra Tart to write a piece about food. But I submit to you that it is not all love and bacon because there are many reasons why food and love are synonymous for me!  Below is what I submitted.  Please if you like it would you  take a moment and go to Terri Giuliano Long’s website and read everyone’s contribution for today, especially all you foodies out there! I hope you will vote for my post, but what I care about most is everyone going to see what all the fuss is about and to read some really awesome contributions today and continuing till the 22nd during her “For the Love of Love event”  PLEASE read and go over to Terri’s blog to VOTE!!

I just love me some free books!

Posted by on Feb 18, 2012 in Books, Indie Projects & Promotions, Reading | 4 comments

I have been getting a newsletter delivered daily that gives me groupings of free Kindle books (the info is at the bottom of the post on where to go to get yours). As an author you can arrange, for a fee of course, to have Amazon list your book for free! This is a great tool for authors to get their ratings up on Amazon, and it is great for readers on a budget like me. So a couple of friends of mine have decided  to do just that and below are their books. I had previously bought one and the author gave me a copy for review for the other so I missed getting both for free! But because I am a sucker for trying to get gift certificates for more books at Amazon (by the way this year alone I have won four contests and $275 dollars for my book spending habits). They are Kindle mobi books so you can read them for free on your Kindle or on your Kindle app, which I have been doing for a couple of years on my iPhone till Geoff got me a Kindle for our anniversary! Now I have so many books it is crazy! Anyway these two books are gems, and I promise NO DRAGONS in the second book!
