This week I have the privilege of having an award winning author at the Cabin! Mr. Kfir Luzzatto with his latest book, The Evelyn Project have graced me the book, a recipe and a wonderful monologue from his leading man!
As you may be guessed the Small Blogs Big Dreams Blog Hop has started off with a BANG! A cover reveal and a tease plus now another ‘taste’ at what is to come a little later this week!
The Evelyn Project is a wonderful dark and sinister thriller of which I will reveal my review on Friday, on Thursday there will be a wonderful treat from the author’s grandmother’s recipes! It is a week of tasting! Geoff and I had the recipe to be posted on Thursday and it is definitely going to be something I make often! Plus the author tested it out on his leading man, and he seems to be ok… sort of, you will have to wait and see for that tidbit! ALSO on Thursday will be an special post that will be my BIG surprise to one lucky Cabin Goddess follower! You still have a chance to get an extra entry by adding a Sunday Shorts post to your blog! (Yes I know it is not Sunday, so do not title it Sunday Shorts, but follow the rules!)
The Evelyn Project
by Kfir Luzzatto
A loving father’s cry for help gets into the wrong hands, and a hundred years later things get out of control.
Evelyn’s father did everything that was in his power to save his dying daughter, black magic included. But when a century later his plea for help gets into the wrong hands, all hell breaks loose.
Caught in the slippery battlefield between the Vatican and a cult that wants to change the past, a young Italian professor and a beautiful French aspiring actress are too busy running away from murder and conspiracy to let physical attraction develop into love.
And it doesn’t help that Her Majesty’s Secret Service decides to take an interest in what everybody else is doing and to pull some strings of its own. Quite the contrary, in fact…
I remember when I read my first Hemingway. Sitting in my grandfathers study snuggled under my great grandmother’s knitted blanket with a small 60 watt bulb illuminating the treasured book from his shelves. His study smelled like leather and typewriter ribbon, I will never forget that. When I smell these things or snuggle under that blanket, which I still have, I go back to that time in that chair with that Old Man. Memories are heavily tied to scent, taste, feeling… and for me words. I was so emotionally invested in the Fisherman and I stayed up all night till the tale was done.
You know what books I am talking about, the ones you read which stay with you, like my Hemingway moment. That have grabbed you in some way with some ‘hook’, dragging you along for the ride. The ones that a month, a year or even five later you see something, or read something which brings you back to that moment in the book, where you are, what you are doing, what you are eating… Some of you have a handful, some of you, like me, have different handfuls that I cycle through because books are part of a central core of my being.
(PSSSSSSSST Poseidon’s Children is only $2.99 if you missed it being free! GO GRAB IT before sitting down to read this interview and snag these recipes!!)
I was in the middle of reading the book and got a HUGE hankering for some traditional New England style boiled grub. What better place than on the coast of New England to get a bucket of Atlantic Steamers or maybe a Lobstah (thats Lobster to all you NON New Englanders.. I lived there for long enough that when I am tired the loss of ‘R’s is quite pronounced… and yes I pawk the caw in the yawd)
So, I popped over to one of my favorite sidewalk cafes in New England clutching my Kindle because I had not quite finished Poseidon’s Children (The Legacy of the Gods
(yes on my magic jet, WORK with me people
) As I left the counter with my basket of steamers, who do I find sitting there?! Stunning as usual and amidst the ruins of what seemed to be half the menu, my new friend Peggy from the book, THAT is who!! Larry was no where to be found, but Peggy looked like she might be waiting… maybe she will let me sit and bother her.. such a fan girl now huh?
“Hey Peggy! Mind if I sit down?” “looking quizzically at the diverse collection of plates in front of Peggy”
Teaser Tuesdays No. 6
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading (she also hosts some other great memes) . Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
“Well, at least we know they can be killed. It always pisses me off when the monster won’t die.”
