Fresh Souls Welcome!

You’ve been meaning to brush up on your CSS. Everyone keeps saying how important it is. You know you ought to understand it, and eventually you’re going to have to just break down, move to Tibet, climb a mountain, and swear an oath to spend fifteen years curled around the base of a Himalayan Pine doing nothing but reading arcane CSS manuals the thickness of unabridged dictionaries and struggling to scratch notes in the scree.

Kriss will return after these commercial messages

Posted by on Apr 20, 2012 in Cabin Basics | 7 comments

<sigh> “man-beast” here, ugh I hate that nick-name, but then I hate all nick-names.

Anyway, this is merely a short missive to all of you who may wander here to inform all of you that Kriss will be taking a small break from “them internets” (as my family would say in rural Arkansas), I know she’s posted the same idea in a “I’m taking a vacation” fashion earlier today, but she’s now taking a small medical break. As in sickness and plague-bound break.  She’s not dying, calm down. But with rapid fire fever development Dr.Geoff has restricted her to bed rest, a restriction I fully intend to enforce.  Now I know that I lend her to all of you with greater frequency than I actually get her (her gaming skills have sorely declined in her absence from our usual rigamarole), but I must insist that I take back my toy until I can repair it with glue and duct tape.  Once fixed you can all come back and play and have jolly times, free to pursue a life of religious fulfillment, until then however I must ask you to save requests of business or aid until she is better, if you have humorous anecdotes and she sneaks her way online with her phone I ask that you not be an enabler and sternly tell her to watch TV until she sleeps in the arms of Morpheus so she can be better in a day or two.  Those of you who cannot wait to have some task handled and wish to pursue her assistance despite her infirmed condition are encouraged to contact me instead so that you may learn first-hand that I am only “fuzzy” and “cuddly” for her, not you, you insensitive [editor’s note: By blog author’s instructions we were asked not to allow the majority of the following sentence to be shown as it contained aggressively violent and explicit literary imagery of a dehumanizing nature, as well as a learned and remarkably creative reinterpretation of the uses of shop tools as regards human physiology, sentence will resume after truncation of primary questionable content] until the badgers are full and the generator dies. Otherwise, have a good day and we’ll have Kriss back in a couple of days!

D is for DANDELION – Eat Weeds! Sautéed DANDELION Greens

Dandelion greens could be part of some dystopian nightmare right?

Some of you may have noticed that I was absent in the post earlier for the A to Z challenge from D.. if you didn’t or if you read it and thought I was being “cute” well guys.. that was the ManBeast! YES indeed he heard I was writing about either Dandelion Greens or Dystopia and he forced a PS3 controller into my hands, brought up .doc file and started rapid firing with such fervor I was a bit afraid. However upon reading it I am all warm and love this man even more. He is passionate and he nailed it. The POST is an interesting read if you have the time, hope you can check it out!

Myself however, I want to lay in the grass with my Objectionable Content Book, PURE and eat this yummy dish! My mom tried these out on us when we were growing up but they were really bitter. I have since discovered you can usually find these in bunches at local farmers markets, the Whole Foods in your area or Organic specialty markets!

You can also grow your own in containers with

No Work Biscuits & Gravy

Posted by on Oct 6, 2011 in Bacon, Cabin Basics, Cabin Cooking | 0 comments

We have been really sick the last few days with no energy to do jack. But let’s face it, many of us pick up the phone and dial in for dinner because it is just to much work. Why else are all those horrible dramas on TV wasting at least one depressing scene with a single woman or man looking at the left overs from all the take-out and the delivery menus that decorate their fridge.

Secrets and Showers at the Laundromat

“Put your name on the list.” she said as she pushed over a dog-eared notebook for me to sign. ” There are four people ahead of you. Do you have preference on which shower you want?” Of course I did, for crying out loud. If you did not get the ones closest to the main hot water heater, you were going to have to deal with the chance of lukewarm water. I already live in enough discomfort having no running water; I really could do without a cold shower.
