Realizing that I am WAY behind where I usually am with reading I needed some motivation. Now that I am writing my own book as you have noticed I am balancing my blogging habits between Cooking/Recipes, Book Reviews and Author Interviews/Guest Posts, and (of course) anything Alaskan! Since it is called Wicked Winter Read-a-Thon how could I pass it up!
I read a lot of blog posts due to my Triberr members and this morning on Musings for an Addicted Reader posted the info about this weekends challenge.Yep I am hooked. I am challenging myself to read four books. I picked up The Cowboy and The Vampire by Clark Hays and Kathleen McFall after sitting on 80% way to long. Not because I didn’t like it but because I am not very good at organizing my time or my book buying problem. I finished it during lunch while taking my writing break. (Now it is sitting in my ’need to review’ pile!)
You can check out the books I am reading below and the progress I am on my Wicked Winter Read-a-Thon bookshelf. I am unable to put up one of them because the author has yet to list it. But it is in my Favorite Widget from Amazon below. Check out all the info and get involved. I know I needed a kick in the pants, PLUS the button was so pretty!
I will be posting my challenge updates from here so check back if you are interested in what I am doing!
*****WRAP UP ON DAY ONE! I am 49% of my way through ‘The Hunger Games‘ and as I mentioned above I finished ‘The Cowboy and The Vampire’ I am still reading as I need to finish this before I sleep, at least that is the plan.. see you TOMORROW!*****
Will you participate? Look for my updates here and on twitter under the hashtag #WWReadathon! Hope to see you all there, don’t forget to bring your mittens!
- The first challenge I participated in spoke to my Alaskan soul!
“A second Ice Age is coming on quickly! What do you do in order to prepare and how do you end up surviving it?”
(posted as a comment on Musings for an Addicted Reader)
“OH I may have a very unfair advantage here. I live in Alaska and just survived posting in my bikini in front of the Universities sign at -52F! Let’s see, can I give you a list of what is in my car for cold weather survival? No? OK I will be original here but use my survivalists training! My spinning tool for spinning our Malamutes’ (dog)hair to make new winter wear, a hunting knife, a Swiss army knife, canned tuna in oil (we need high protein and high fat to help keep our health up in the cold, a hand ax for wood and kindling, flint and a strike stone, water proof matches, Wool socks, wool hat, wool sweater, and tons of natural fiber weaved clothing (synthetics do not breath so I will not as much natural stuff as possible) bow and arrow and a snare trap, rope, oiled tarp, flour, salt (for curing) wool blanket, skijoring gear for my dogs and me for travel… set of camping pans and cooking gear (cabin goddess must cook)dried veggies.. ok ok I WILL STOP, but there are some of the important things to have!?
When participating, you only have to read. However, it’s always fun reading starting posts and updates on your progress throughout the event! Even settling with a wrap-up post only to show how the reading went when it’s over, is fine.
END OF THREE DAY COUNT 3-4 books read, not bad considering how much time I spent writing and tweeting and blogging about it!
The last book I started was Maya Papaya by J.C. Andrijeski
6 AM AKST Been asleep for 1 hour but I promised an update, plus the first challenge was starting. Alarm went off, checked the challenge & went to answer. Promptly fell asleep ON my keyboard (seriously I brought it to bed with me so I wouldn’t miss the challenge) Before I had nodded off I had finished the first story in the Anthology.
10 AM AKST - Woke up to another alarm at 9:45 and managed to finish the 1st challenge with a minute to spare. Went on to read and work on this blog so I did not have to be so frazzled like I was yesterday. I also woke up to an e-mail saying that I had one a $150 GC from Amazon!! OMG I am SO excited.
I am packing for polar bear today folks! Zombie-free zone today at the cabin! Plus some people were wondering if I ever was going to cook again! (I posted my kitchen sink to Instagram…it is not pretty) I have cooked, the problem is that I posted 2 blogs with no food, unless you count the pastry chef’s brains that his sous chef was chowing on when we made it to the ball!
DAY 2 WRAP UP- 11:31 PM
As midnight draws near.. I have lost a shoe, killed 23 zombies, one little zombie dog (it was a chihuahua they don’t count as dogs anyway) and stomped on 3 zombie mice. One managed to stay clean of scratches or bites. When it comes for him to deal with the pumpkin as a carriage he better get some more homies because the next time I need to be able for it to stay ahead of the horde. As it stands one of my evil step sisters managed to get my glass slipper and last time I saw her John was throwing pepper in her face while she sat there sucking on the spiked heel. All in all it was a great day! BRING on Day 3 of the Wicked Winter Read-A-Thon!
My goal was to finish ‘The Hunger Games‘ by Suzanne Collins and get started on ‘Double Take Tales‘ by Donna Brown. I accomplished both and before Midnight, even with my little nap! Zombie killing is hard work!
‘The Hunger games’ is for the Howling Turtle Read-a-long I am involved in this month, including hosting a chapter question on the 20th. It is going to be really hard to make sure I stay on track and only answer from the chapter hosts questions that pertain to their chapters!
‘Double Take Tales‘ is written by one of the hosts and creators of Win With eBooks and also part of this months Event for the group. I wanted to be able to read and review another book for the event which starts officially on the 12th with guest posts, interviews and reviews going out till then.
I cannot wait to find out what we have in store for us tomorrow!
READING UPDATE DAY 2 – 7 PM
I had read another 183 pages in both ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Double Take Tales
I read a total of 83 pages Today
Am reading Crown of Vengeance
by Stephen Zimmer
(I escaped a wildfire! When I did try to read it was SO warm I kept falling asleep despite the fact the cat kept trying to wake me up. Then my mother and daughter call me in panic because I was not online. My e-mail was blowing up because I took the day off yesterday to get stuff done and was not online this morning. Then I started procrastinating and ummm ended up having 3-hour phone call to Shannon Mayer this morning. When I finally decided I had enough, I left the phone inside, changing my voice mail to tell people I was alive but reading ALONE (I wanna be a HERMIT, A HERMIT!) What is so freaking funny is I slathered up in bug spray, lit three Tiki torches full of Citronella oil and sat down to read. Thinking quite mistakenly I would stay awake outside. I feel asleep…. FOR THREE HOURS. I am now covered in bug bites, the torches ran out and so did the bug spray apparently!! So ya I had EPIC fail, but I have four more days, right?
