Steamy Night at the Cabin: @AmythaMcclung #Interview & a #Recipe
Halloween week usually is not the time for romance, but in my cabin this week is steamy hot! We love the holiday and have been having a lot of romantic nights. But a lot of you guys don’t have partners coming home tonight and sometimes you just like to curl up with a good snack and a lovely read. Amy K. McClung. In honor of her new spin-off and in line with my new healthy lifestyle I am sharing an easy recipe for fun and healthy Halloween themed food.
When did you begin writing? When I was younger I wrote screenplays for fun instead of writing in a journal. That stopped shortly after high school. Then in 2011, I lost my job of eleven years and felt depressed and needed an outlet for that depression. My husband and I were talking on the phone one day while he was at work and I told him about a show I’d been watching and how I thought I could write the story differently. He suggested I write a story to pass the time and take my mind off of my job search. From that moment on, I’ve used writing as my escape from reality in order to deal with things from my past in different ways throughout each story.
What’s your favorite thing about writing? It’s been the best stress reliever for me. It’s very soothing and it’s been fun for me. I’ve also enjoyed all the amazing friends that I’ve made since I began writing, including fellow authors, readers, and bloggers that I’ve met along the way.
What is your writing style? Do you like to outline or just write as you go? I write as I go for most of my stories. On my most recent release, Curves in the Road, I did do an outline because I was covering a wide expanse of time and would be going back and forth from the present to the past so I needed to do an outline at that time to keep my time table straight. Normally I make notes on different ideas I have for where I want the story to go and then I work them in where they fit.
Do you have a favorite spot where you like to write? In my recliner, with my laptop, while listening to music or a movie in the background for noise. I can’t write in complete silence.
What authors do you like to read? There are so many! JK Rowling, Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Caine, Felicia Tatum, Tabatha Vargo, Sherrilyn Kenyon, John Grisham, Molly Harper, Julie Cassar, Colleen Hoover, Suzanne Collins. I could go on and on. As you can tell I love a variety of books too!
If you could choose a dream cast for The Parker Harris Series, who would you pick? Parker would be played by Deborah Ann Woll, Quinn would be played by Ian Somerhalder, Mitchell would be played by Liam Hemsworth, and Jackie would be played by Emma Watson.
Would you say you relate to any of your characters? If so, which one and why? Parker is the one I relate to the most. Parker is a werewolf and feels like an outcast and just wishes for a normal life. I grew up shy and a bit different than most of the kids in school with me. Obviously I wasn’t a werewolf, lol, but I did always feel like I never fit in and I always wished I was a ‘normal girl.’
If you were deserted on an island, which author would you want to be stranded with? Suzanne Collins. She wrote the Hunger Games, she’s knows a little something about survival.
If you had the opportunity to live one year of your life over again, which year would you choose? 2001. My best friend’s father committed suicide that year. I’d tell him how much he meant to me. I grew up spending every weekend at their house and going on vacations with them. In his note he mentioned me and said as far as he was concerned he had two daughters. I’d go back and tell him that I loved him and not to go because even after 13 years I miss him so much.
Well I promised a recipe and since I am a healthy food kick, how about something everyone can enjoy, not just you with your romance books and your curling up on the couch and dreaming of dreamy people! I used to make these for the kids all the time, and considering this wonderful series has a lot of…. FANGS in it, I am going to share my new healthy version of MONSTER BITES!
- 2 medium green or red apples
- ⅓ cup almond butter
- ½ cup (approx) of white candied almonds (you can also use almond slices
- Core apples; cut each into 8 thick slices. Make each mouth by spreading about 1 teaspoon of the almond butter on each slice.
- Add around five or six almonds candies or slices (or slip in the candy corn for the fangs) and top with another apple slice (make sure each have the almond butter on them).
- Serve with an Appletini or a cup of cider and enjoy!
You can use candy corn to make fangs, and that would work great with Halloween, even add some fruit roll-ups for a tong if your fangs are of the werewolf variety! (calories will fluctuate a tad depending on what you use for teeth but it is so minuscule, don't worry!)
