Tuesday for #TheTaking Blogaverse Event with @KimberlyDerting

The-Taking-Kimberly-Derting-FEATURE

This is such a fun idea! Basically in honor of the upcoming release of The Taking, every Tuesday till April 29th, HarperTeen is sponsoring a really cool tour called Tuesdays For The Taking. It’s a fun , interactive activity occurring on twelve blogs. Not only can you get involved here on the blog and win a copy of the GORGEOUS ARC, you get to ask your question on Twitter and have the author answer it. Each TFTT blog will have a different treat from the author and questions either relating to this or something else which the blog owner choses. Make sure you check check for the hashtag #TheTaking and do google searchs for Tuesday for the Taking constantly as TFTT will transpire around the web on various blogs. And who knows, there may be new giveaways affixed to them.

For those who remember, I reviewed The Taking  on February 1st, which also was the launch of my new blog digs. It happened to be another Young-Adult read which happens to fast becoming my area of reading this year. Kimberly Derting has written other books which are now in my TBR pile (see her author bio for some of the lnks).

And now, without further adieu, I thank HarperTeen for the opportunity to be part of Tuesday for The Taking…

Untitled-1

  1. Independence Day – This movie had it all—action, humor, tears. And who doesn’t remember the “Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!” speech? Goosebumps!
  2. MIB – Another Will Smith vs. the aliens, only this time he was working with them to keep the rest of us in the dark. Seriously, where can I get my hands on one of those neuralyzers? (I’d love to make people forget some of the stupid things I say, lol!)
  3. Star Wars – For any child of the 70s, this was THE movie franchise of the decade. I not only wanted to be Princess Leia, I was obsessed with all things Star Wars. Right down to collecting the trading cards, and meticulously cataloging them in shoe boxes. Too bad I never saved them . . .
  4. Star Trek – And don’t say which one, because the answer is all of them. The old ones, the new ones, the remakes, the prequels, the spin-offs. From “The Trouble With Tribbles” all the way through Chris Pine’s younger (and maybe sexier) Captain Kirk, I’ll watch them all!
  5. ET – A kinder, gentler alien who taught us to discover our heartlight . . . and Reese’s Pieces.

  6. Invasion of the Body Snatchers – My version was the 1978 one, starring Donald Sutherland. The idea of pod people taking over your body—and your life—well, let’s just say, I had a hard time looking at my friends the same way for a while.
  7. Alien – Holy mother of . . . when that dude’s stomach ripped open and that creepy alien head popped out, I may have peed my pants a little. Sigourney Weaver was badass (and awesome) as she battled the freakish, two-mouthed, acid-dripping alien. And in Aliens (the 1986 sequel), she was just as kickass!
  8. Close Encounters of the Third Kind – First, you see them. Second, their effect is physical (animals sense them, you find patches of scorched earth, electronic interference, etc.). Third, you meet them. This 1970s classic, starring Richard Dreyfus, was all about that, making contact with the aliens. An intense, emotional thrillride.
  9. Chronicle – After being exposed to some kind of alien meteorite in the woods, three high school teens develop crazy super powers. How they handle those powers is equally crazy!
  10. Super 8 – A group of kids filming their own Super 8 movie manage to capture footage of a train derailing in the background, only to discover that the accident has landed them in the middle of a huge government (alien) cover-up.
    • BTW this is one of my Favorites too. I had to watch it again. I love the whole combination of a coming of age story with the sci-fi alien invasion! SO awesome!

  1. Great post! Picking my top movies in the sci-fi genre is a challenge. I like many of the same ones as Kimberly, and I like a wide range from movies that make you think to movies that make you laugh.
