Songs for the Summer – a #WWReadathon Challenge

WW Read-a-Thon

Welcome to Cabin Goddess’ challenge for this years Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon

Songs for Summer

This challenge is open all week long:

June 7, 12:00 AM EST  – 14th, 12:00 AM EST

We are all reading, come join us over at My Shelf Confessions and get a chance to win some great gifts with this weekly challenge!

This one is fun, almost as fun as last years.. wait it is more fun because this year it is open for a week! Pick a song that goes with whatever you are reading in the comment section below with a link to it somewhere on the web. If you can to also post a link to a YouTube video, even more the better! 😀

Now since this is a 7-day challenge instead of a 24-hour challenge you get 7 entries for this particular #WWReadathon game!

What you say? SEVEN entries?

And one person took advantage of this!! CONGRATS JEAN!

Wait, can I do it today too? I did a lot of reading today. I finished A Red Herring Without Mustard. Flavia is one lonely kid, and though she would probably hate the rather schmaltzy tone of this song, I think it fits her anyway. Lonely Place Alone, by the Origin.

Jean recently posted..The Amateur CracksmanMy Profile

  1. If I didn’t have editing to do this week I would rule this thing… LOL
    Show me some love!

  2. YES! Ok my Song today is Titanium by David Guetta featuring Sia
    here is the youtube link!

It goes with Faerie Winter – cause I totally picture her and the kids running through the woods being chased just like this and that they won’t give up.. you know?
Plus all these kids have powers that they are struggling to control just like the kid in the video!
    Show me some love!

  3. This is such a great idea! My song is Intro by the XX, here is a link to the song/video on youtube: it goes with the book the %th Wave by Rick Yancey which I am almost done with. Both the song and the book have an eerie, somewhat dangerous mood and I love listening to it while I’m reading:)

  4. Fun challenge, thanks for hosting 🙂

My first WW read was Sparks by Laura Bickle. The song that first reminded me of this book was Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys, the lyrics remind me of the main character Anya, that’s why 🙂 And there were plenty of fires & burning in this book, including people on fire, although I’m not letting you know if Anya was on fire, too 😉 That would be spoilers 🙂 Here’s a link to the song with the lyrics:
    Show me some love!

  5. I love music challenges. 🙂 Today’s accompaniment for The Marvelous Creations of Joseffy is Rasputina’s “State Fair.”

More about it and Joseffy at the website.

  6. Fatshionista by Vanessa McKnight is my book
My song Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie

  7. I love this challenge. For my first book Altered Frequency, (Hauntings at Inner Harbor #2) by Joya Fields the song choice is [youtube
    Show me some love!

  8. My song for today is Never Too Late by Three Days Grace, reading Breathe by Sarah Crossan. –

I found encouragment in this song which I also found in this book.
    Show me some love!

  9. You know, it might sound weird, but while reading Ink, this is the song prominent in my head.

    Show me some love!

  10. Oh, what a great idea! Today I’m reading most of “A Streetcar Named Desire”–I’m going to finish it–and so I pick Ella Fitzgerald singing “Paper Moon.” I would pick the one about how she loves her man even though he hits her sometimes but I don’t know the name. Let’s see if this code works:

  11. My book is I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella and the song is “Telephone” by Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
    Show me some love!

  12. My Day 1 6/7 Book is Come Back Dear Sun and the song I picked is Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles!

You can see the video on my post at:
    Show me some love!

  13. Mine is Ivan Rebrof Ave Maria

it matches perfectly with Rasputin’s Bastards by David Nickle hell he and his music are mentioned in the books so even the author agrees lol 🙂

  14. Theme from Quincy, M.E. because I am reading Quincy, M.E. a novellization by Thorn Rachina

  15. I’m reading Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh (GREAT book) and the song I choose is Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran – 🙂
    Show me some love!

  16. I’m reading Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout and so far, the song that immediately came to mind is “You Give Love a Bad Name” – Bon Jovi 🙂 I think it fits Daemon so far lol

    Show me some love!

  17. Day ONE is about to wrap up!!! You can start posting DAY 2 after MIDNIGHT, in other words AFTER this COMMENT!!
    Show me some love!

  18. I read the graphic novel My Friend Dahmer today about a man who grew up with him. Its wonderful and scary and all I could think about was how much went unsaid in Dahmers life. He was a quite island that turned deadly. So I picked Sound of Silence

  19. I’m reading “The World without us” by Alan Weisman and the first song that came to mind for this challenge was “It’s The End Of The World” by R.E.M. I think it suits the book perfectly.

    Show me some love!

  20. Ok, so here’s my 2nd entry for my current book: The Storm by Alexander Gordon Smith, and the song that I think it fits is Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden –

Thanks again for hosting, this challenge is really fun 🙂 I wonder if I’ll be able to think of a song for every book I read for this read-a-thon 🙂
    Show me some love!

  21. I’m reading Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer at the moment and my song would be Matchbox Twenty’s ‘How Far We’ve Come’.
It’s a post-apocalyptic science fiction book so I think the song’s lyrics fits this whole “the world is coming to an end” theme perfectly. 🙂
    Show me some love!

  22. Oh, this challenge will be fun! 😉 On day one of the read-a-thon I finished Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, and there was a car in the book in which all the tapes turned to Queen albums. So here is one of the songs they listened to!

    Show me some love!

  23. I’ve been bashing my way through Richardson’s “Pamela” and today’s song is picked for ol’ Pam, who could have played this on her spinet. It’s Minuet #2 by Bach, and my daughters are learning it on the violin so I hear it a lot. This girl, who is doing a duet with herself, is much better at it than they are:

  24. I just started an e-book called “Another Saturday Night & I Ain’t Got No Body” by Jennie Marts so I picked Louis Armstorng playing “I Ain’t Got Nobody”

  25. Today I am reading Frost Burned and my son is Hungry Like the Wolf
    Show me some love!

  26. I’m reading Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Hunter is sexy and he knows it and I just love this song. So much fun!

  27. i started reading The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice. Song for it is Beautiful Monster by Ne-Yo (comparing that she is he).
    Show me some love!

  28. Today, on day 2, I was reading mainly from Mutiny on the Bounty by Charles Bernard Nordhoff and James Norman Hall. There are a lot of shipwrecks and narrow escapes with the lack of food and water in the book, and this reminded me of a Russian rock song in which the lyrics go about men having to eat their mate in order to survive at sea. Imagine my surprise when I found the song accompanied with the episodes from The Pirates of the Caribbean! I love this challenge 🙂

    Show me some love!

  29. I’m reading Empire State of Mind by Zack O’Malley Greenburg. The song choice is really obvious…

  30. Today’s pairing:
Nothing says Carl Sandburg’s Smoke and Steel like Jack White on a farm:

    Pastoral, meet industrial.
    Show me some love!

  31. Day 2 Song Posted at:

Book Read – Nalah and the Pink Tiger by Anne Sawyer-Aitch
Song – In The Jungle (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)

The song just captures the spirit of this book! 🙂
    Show me some love!

  32. So, Now I am on to Dark Innocence by Rahima Warren. At the risk of showing my age, I present you with this.
    Show me some love!

  33. OK time for Day 3!!! You ready? Third day of entries, if you have posted before here is you chance to do it again! Today I am reading “Birthdays of a Princess” by Helga Zelner WOW what a trip I am not to far in but she is pretty messed up so I am going ot have to use Go Ask Alice by Jefferson Airplane (before they were Starship) Here is the Woodstock video –

    Show me some love!

  34. BTW you can embed videos here in the comment section by pasting the embed code from Youtube!! COOL HUH?

  35. Oh man so sad I didn’t get to put in a choice for yesterday but I was stuck at a wedding reception – least I got to read there! haha Here is my choice for today its a Japanese band I really like. It goes well with what I’m reading – Ink by Amanda Sun its about a american girl who is now living in Japan after her mother dies. and she meets a bad boy hehe

    Show me some love!

  36. I just finished Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, and immediately thought about the perfect song with the perfect lyrics: So Close by Jon McLaughlin – from the Enchanted OST. Here’s a video with the lyrics:
    Show me some love!

  37. Today, on day 3, I read A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, so here is Mendelssohn’s overture based on the play. By the way, did you know that his famous wedding march is from the same suite? It was news to me! 🙂
    Show me some love!

  38. Dead Radio Society – Murder Song II Live @ Fat
for Murder of the Cat’s Meow by Denise Swanson

    This is my third book

  39. Day 3 – The Chaos by Rachel Ward – Song – Savin me by Nickelback –
    Show me some love!

  40. I am reading Girl with the Iron Touch by Kady Cross and the song I picked is Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande, particularly for Griffin and Finley, since they seem to hide behind their powers and both feel inadequate when compared to the other.

  41. Here is the full link, don’t know what happened in the first post.
    Show me some love!

  42. Ack, I hope I’m not too late for Sunday! I read “Theodosia and the Last Pharaoh,” so OBVIOUSLY I picked the Bangles’ “Walk Like an Egyptian”!

    Show me some love!

  43. For Day 3 of the challenge, I read/reviewed the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible NKJV and chose Awesome God as my song! (The video for this is spectacular!) Be sure to drop by my post for a peek!
    Show me some love!

  44. Hi!
Okay, so I’m reading Tiger’s Curse and I’m going to pick “Baby Boy” by Beyoncé to go with it. The music fits well with the theme of this book I think!
    Here’s the video:

thanks for the challenge and giveaway! I need to get back to my reading 😀
    Show me some love!

  45. Right now I am reading The Hunger Games by Suzianne Collins and I am at the part where Peeta and Katniss are in the cave talking about when “forever first started” for Peeta and I thought Lenny Kravitz “Again” would be a good one to go with this moment because just before Katniss found Peeta she was wondering if they would ever see each again.

    Show me some love!

  46. Day 4 is already here, and I’ve been reading Manon Lescaut bu Abbe Prevost today, which is an 18-century French classical novel. And this is the kind of music the protagonists were probably dancing to:

    Show me some love!

  47. I’m finishing up Crewel on audio book – and I thought this song was pretty fitting. Though I couldn’t find a video with it – but here is the youtube link!

    Show me some love!

  48. Day 4 – Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levin – song – Ever Ever After by Carrie Underwood –

So light and joyfull song for this fairy-tale 🙂

  49. Today I am reading Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire – it’s Beautiful Disaster told from the guy’s perspective and my song of choice is:
    It Girl by Jason DeRulo

    Show me some love!

  50. Day … five?? REALLY WOW~! BRING IT!

  51. Last night I started Love Minus Eighty by Will McIntosh – it is about women that were seriously injured in the past are put into cryogenic frozen stasis…and men in the future can “date” them – and decide if they want to revive them fully and pay their medical bills. It is FASCINATING so far.

So my song? Frozen by Madonna of course!

  52. Read Cobweb Bride by Vera Nazarian on the bus this morning. Not sure what I think yet, but it did bring very specific music to mind : Fever Ray’s “If I Had a Heart.” If you watch Vikings (and why wouldn’t you?), this is their chilly, droning title music. Perfect for a fantasy set in winter about the dead not dying.

  53. Day 5 – The Bronze Horseman by Pauilne Simmons – Song – Total Eclipse of the Heart –

I see there relationship between Tatiana and Alexander in this song

  54. Today, on day 5, I was finishing Manon Lescaut by Abbe Prevost, and it ended very sadly with the lovers going to America and hoping to start a new life there, but this was not to happen… So American Dream is a song for today

    Show me some love!

  55. For Day 5, since I’ve been reading On the Road, I picked Depeche Mode’s cover of Route 66.
    Show me some love!

  56. For the last few days, I’ve been looking for a good version of the Zenda Waltzes, which was The Last Greatest Magician Howard Thurston’s “theme” song during his early career. It’s a surprisingly under-recorded piece of music. This is video of a music box that plays the tune. The music starts around the 1:20 mark.
    Show me some love!

  57. I’m still reading through Love Minus Eighty by Will McIntosh – it is so jarrying….its like hmm what can i compare it to – ever seen the movie Love Actually? It’s like that but set so far in the future. There are women dead and frozen in statis in these cryogenic dating farms, they are actually dead but can be revived for “dates” and you can choose to bring them back to life …for such a hard price. This song made me think how hard that must be and how they must wish they might have lived life fuller when they could.

    Show me some love!

  58. The Cranberries – Zombies for Aombie Man: Feared to Cheered

  59. That should be Zombie for Zombie Man: Feared to Cheered

  60. Today, on day 6, I was reading One Thousand and One Nights, and I put this as a background. Wonderful atmosphere!

    Show me some love!

  61. For Oak and Dagger (White House Gardener) I choose barb with dagger – Joseph Oak

  62. My choice makes no sense today. I finished The Darling Buds of May, a collection of three short novels in the Pop Larkin series, and there is a whole lot of English summer in them. But I don’t know anything about English summer, I really only know about California summer, so all the songs I thought of didn’t fit. But I do think Pop would get a kick out of this one–the B-52’s Rock Lobster:
    Show me some love!

  63. I read The Selection a few days ago and kept listening to Holding Us Back by Katie Herzig. It’s such a lovely song and the lyrics also happen to describe some of the main character’s struggles quite well. Enjoy!

  64. OMG its almost over LAST DAY!!! BRING IT ON PEOPLE! I am reading a zombie book, Deadline (The Newsflesh Trilogy),

    Show me some love!

  65. I’m still reading “The World without us” by Alan Weisman and, as I’m approaching its end, this song came to mind: “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson.
    Show me some love!

  66. Wow, it’s day 7 already! 🙂 I read The Lady and the Unicorn today, and the action takes place in the wonderful Brussels. When I visited Brussels this was on the top so no surprise it’s on my mind!
Happy end of the challenge, everybody! 🙂

    Show me some love!

  67. Song for Thursday – Infinity by Rachel Ward – Pain by Three days grace –

  68. Today’s song is for “in the First Circle,” which I’m going to read all evening. It’s a little too relevant this week…so I picked one of my favorite songs by Boris Grebenshikov, ??????? ???? (The Young Lions). Unfortunately I can’t link you to an English version of the lyrics, nor can I find my CD case which has them:
    Show me some love!

  69. 5 more hours!! BRING IT!

  70. My song for today is RADIOACTIVE! why??? Because people are dying of RADIATION posion in the book I’m reading Faerie After

    Show me some love!

  71. Wait, can I do it today too? I did a lot of reading today. I finished A Red Herring Without Mustard. Flavia is one lonely kid, and though she would probably hate the rather schmaltzy tone of this song, I think it fits her anyway. Lonely Place Alone, by the Origin.
    Show me some love!

  72. June 12 book was Limitless by Nick Vujicic.
Corresponding video? I Believe I Can Fly by R Kelly at

    Create With Joy
    Show me some love!

  73. June 14 book: Stealing The Preacher by Karen Witemeyer
Song – Son Of A Preacher Man – Dusty Springfield at
