Gum Smacking Werewolves Survive Night Demon (Interview & a Recipe)

Lisa KesslerLisa Kessler, author of Night Series

The latest of this is NIGHT DEMON, is here gracing us with a visit! Hi Lisa!

You may have been noticing a new trend here on the blog, one which I have a hard time admitting… one of…..smoking hot paranormal romance.. hey no hating! Today I welcome back Lisa Kessler to the Cabin. She did a cover reveal here a couple of weeks back and agreed to be a victim guest for a Cabin Goddess Interview on today’s blog as part of her tour!

CG -Tweet the book: You are challenged to tweet a synopsis of the book to include your tweet handle, GO!

Deep in the Yucatan a demon has awakened. It will take all the Night Walkers to silence her & love to save them all.. #NightDemon @LdyDisney

CG – Introduce yourself to the captive audience  for today’s interview which sits before you with bated breath. (As in tell us

something NOT in your bio, give us a dirty little secret not having or having to do with your writing)

I’m Lisa Kessler… I’m a noisy gum chewer. In fact, when I’m writing I burn through packs of sugarless gum. I wish I chewed all quiet and lady-like, but in fact I chomp and sound like a cow. At least I try to keep the gum popping to a minimum! J

CG – Is there a genre, other than the one you currently write in, that you wish you could break into?

I love writing paranormal romance!  I love the dark and grittiness of horror and urban fantasy, but the heat and sensuality of romance all rolled into one.  I do have a couple of YA ideas though so someday I might branch out that way…

CG – When it comes to the genre you do write in, what are a few of the books or writers that have influenced you and your own writing (yes I can actually ask a serious question?)

Definitely Anne Rice and Christine Feehan. Kelley Armstrong and Patricia Briggs are also big influencers on me as well. I really enjoy all of their books and the tone they bring to their stories.

CG – If you could cast one of your works, who would you choose to play your main characters? (some have a huge cast, so say no more than five, I am thinking many would be able to do at least one, you do have one character right? Include photos of choice or I Can find them also – include photo credits or links where they are found)

I have pinterest boards for each of my books with the actors/models I was picturing as I wrote the books… Here are the links:

Antonio BanderasI would LOVE to hear Antonio Banderas read all of Calisto’s dialogue from Night Walker. In fact, if I ever win the lottery I’d definitely talk to his people about it.  He was totally who I heard in my head as I wrote Calisto!

And I would LOVE to see Goran Visnic play Lukas in the Night Demon movie. He has such a tortured stare and then in the rare moments when he smiles it melts your heart…

CG – What is the first thing you would do if you woke up one morning to find one of your books on the NY Times Bestsellers List?

I’d probably make someone else look to be sure I wasn’t hallucinating! LOL  If it’s confirmed I’m pretty sure I’d cry.  This publishing journey is the toughest thing I’ve ever worked at, and it’s also the most rewarding. I’m so humbled every time a reader tells me they loved my books or my characters!  It definitely makes my day and makes me feel like the luckiest writer ever to have some many people out there supporting my fiction!

CG – Do you have any vices that you turn to while you are writing (as in what candy / snack food / drink / 80’s hair band you break out in song too when you just cannot figure out the next line to write and that bitch of a muse is off on her own hunt)?

Oh I already outted myself above! LOL  I chomp gum and sip iced tea like crazy! 🙂

CG – What do you do when you’re not writing? (ie: What festive things do you do for fun? What things do you do when you make yourself have fun, and what is on the top of your list to do when you actually take two days for you (and family)

I sing, read, and go to Disneyland as often as I possibly can! 🙂  I’m also a huge Halloween junkie so when fall rolls around I start to get excited for the spookiness coming up! (CG Disneyland? SHEESH lucky wench!)

CG – If your book was a meal what would it be? Meat and potatoes? Vegetarian? A light nouveau cuisine? (I do a recipe with many of my authors this maybe an opportunity for you to share a recipe you think could go along with this? Or just describe the actual meal, this would be the whole thing not just one dish – see below for bonus round)

Night Demon would be a medium rare steak on the bloody side, with a side of asparagus spears and a baked potato. (CG – umm I had to add bacon because, well its bacon!)

Make mine a ……… Book themed drink!

I’m also super excited to have 4 new books out this year!  Night Demon in March, Moonlight in July, Hunter’s Moon in October, and Beg Me to Slay in December!

Thanks for the Cabin visit! 🙂

Gretchen Finch’s job would be much easier if she weren’t alone in the jungle with a brilliant recluse whose every glance sets her on fire. But the more she focuses on her work, the closer she gets to unlocking the mysteries of a terrible creature—the Night Demon—that threatens the world as she knows it. Though her scientific mind tells her it’s impossible, she’s beginning to believe the ancient Mayan tales as the sinister jungle comes alive around her.

Lukas Smith has spent hundreds of years searching for answers to his immortal Night Walker nature. As a series of ancient glyphs become clear, he’s about to find out more than he’d ever hoped, but the more he learns, the more his fate intertwines with the Night Demon, and the harder it becomes to hide his immortal secret from the beautiful, intelligent Gretchen.

Together, they must find a way to stop the inexplicable violence and mass destruction surging across the earth before the Night Demon destroys more than just mankind.

“Tell me something.” His voice was soft and low, like the tide. “Why haven’t you ever been married?”“I had bigger plans than a wedding.” Gretchen shrugged, unsure where the conversation was headed but encouraged that Lukas finally asked about something unrelated to work. “I had a couple boyfriends in college, and I dated one of my professors after my doctorate, but relationships don’t travel well, and I like to travel.” She hesitated for a second, glancing his way. “My mom left us when I was little, and a few years ago I lost my dad suddenly. He used to love to take me places camping…” She let out a small sigh. “I feel closer to him when I’m out exploring, I guess.”

Lukas smiled at her, and her stupid heart fluttered in her chest. “Your father raised an amazing woman.”

The brief moment of light was quickly extinguished, though, and his features smoothed back into the chiseled mask of a tormented man.

“What about you?” Gretchen asked. “You’re a good-looking, intelligent guy. Have you ever been married?”

“No.” He clenched his fists, and his forearm muscles contracted. Gretchen did her best not to think about his strong hands as he went on. “I would never wish my life on anyone I loved.”

“You need to look in a mirror, Lukas. Your life is not so bad.” Gretchen straightened up, her brow furrowed. “Maybe you’d notice that if you didn’t waste all your energy pushing everyone away.”

He shook his head, still staring out at the water. “This isn’t what I want.” He stood up and took her hand, sending a jolt of electricity through her body. His gaze demanded hers, and her breath caught in her throat seeing the hunger in his dark green eyes. “There are sins in my past that can never be forgiven, Gretchen. My only solace is to find answers. Anything beyond that…love, passion…it’s all an illusion for me.”

He leaned toward her, and Gretchen’s chin tilted up instinctively, aching to taste him, to heal his wounded spirit. The moment his cool lips brushed hers, her pulse jumped. His kiss, like rich chocolate, infused her senses, making her hungry for more. A moan escaped her throat as his tongue swept along the crease of her lips, enticing her to open her mouth and surrender to the passion she’d been trying to bury.

His fingers slid into her hair and awareness bloomed through her body, forming a pool of heat in her belly. Gretchen let her hands explore his chest, living the fantasy she’d harbored for months, when he suddenly took a step back, breaking the contact.

T’fu! Dammit.” Lukas shook his head, cursing under his breath. A rich undercurrent of a Russian accent flavored his words. It reminded her again that “Smith” was probably not his real last name. He released her hand. “Forgive me. I usually have more self control.”

Gretchen wished he had a lot less. Her legs felt rubbery, her senses on overload, and he apologized for it? She thought he’d finally given up keeping a “professional” distance, but no, Lukas was like an onion with never-ending layers. Would he ever let her in?
