Aliens, Zombies & an Island in the UK (Teaser Tuesdays)

 Teaser Tuesdays No. 21

What more could you ask for on a Tuesday! Wisteria by Bisi Leyton, another YA book I actually read, am reviewing and loved! (totally lucking out with my books lately!)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading (she also hosts some other great memes) . Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  •  Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

They sped through Norton, moving past empty playgrounds, backyards, and abandoned vehicles. This was once home to fifteen thousand people, but now it was derelict Only trackers from the Isle of Smyth and the occasional refugees passed through the town – and the biters.

I am reviewing this tomorrow I really am enthralled with the book. Though it is labeled Young-Adult, I would have to add a mature YA. It has some pretty dark scenes and you would have to call it but I would have let one of my kids read it but my sensitive girl I would steer away as she has faced some violence in her life and it would disturb her to much. So mature over 16.

Though this sounds like just another zombie book, I can assure you the zombies? Well the”biters” are kind of playing 2nd fiddle here. If you are going to dismiss it because of zombies, you should think again!

Wisteria by Bisi LeytonSixteen year old Wisteria Kuti has two options— track the infected around the Isle of Smythe or leave the only known safe haven and face a world infested with flesh eating biters. But even with well-armed trackers, things go wrong and Wisteria ends up alone facing certain death, until she is rescued by the mysterious Bach. Uninfected, Bach is able to survive among the hordes of living dead.

Eighteen year old Bach, from a race known as The Family, has no interest in human affairs. He was sent here to complete his Great Walk and return home as a man—as a Sen Son. The Family regard humans as Dirt People, but Bach is drawn to this Terran girl, whom he has never seen before, but somehow knows.

Hunted by flesh eaters, cannibals, and the mysterious blood thirsty group called Red Phoenix, Wisteria and Bach make their way back to the Isle of Smythe, a community built on secrets and lies.

  4. Hi Kriss,

Great teaser lines and interesting cover art for this book.

I wonder whether the population has fled the town, or if they have suffered a much worse fate?

This isn’t a book which would particularly interest me, although it is probably not so ‘off the wall’, that I wouldn’t review it if asked and still be able to offer some constructive comments and views.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Yvonne
