Dark Waters: Celtic Legacy Book 1 – by Shannon Mayer (a review)
I recently read Shannon Mayer’s new novel, Dark Waters (Celtic Legacy – Book 1) and instantly became bewitched with everything about it! The characters and Ms. Mayer’s new twist on the paranormal and traditional conventions of Celtic mythos. There was no room to relax and breathe while taking the tale in all the while discovering a new world beneath the waves with our girl Quinn. Like a roller coaster ride I didn’t want to get off, Dark Waters grabbed me and held me tight right from the start. The protagonist Quinn, her sister Ashley, the leading men and even her mother do not disappoint.
I highly recommend this to read, especially if you are looking for a perfect book for the beach, a rainy (or in my case VERY cold) afternoon and even a sleepless night! But a word of warning, being lulled into dreamland probably won’t happen! If it does, I guarantee dark. colorful and sexy ones! I read it in two sit downs, and only because I had to go help my Geoff shovel the driveway!
It’s a tale about sisters, family, love and all the struggles surrounding them. Ms. Mayer obviously feels strong about all these things, and was lucky to have a sister to draw from this experience. Being stuck with a baby brother I missed out on the sisterhood experience. Though, I am lucky having several very close girlfriends I consider sisters. within a familial structure, sisterhood is one of the strongest bonds. Quinn and Ashley are no exception to this rule.
Pitted against each other with Quinn and Ashley caught between opposing factions in a millennial-old war between good and evil. Will their sisterhood overcome this and be true to that bond? Though the ending of Dark Waters left her wide open for my wrath as a Medievalist (without spoilers you will have to figure out just why this would be) Being entranced I cannot wait for the 2nd in the series, due out spring of 2012. Dark Waters is just the first of her Celtic Legacy series and I cannot wait to see what lays ahead for Quinn! Will she face her mother? Will her sister stay true? Will Bres heart still belong to her? When I asked Shannon about when we will find out some of these answers, Shannon referred me to Quinn:
Quinn shrugs. “I don’t know. Don’t go swimming late at night, there is more in those waters than sharks that might eat you. That’s probably my best advice.” Pauses. “Actually, maybe you should consider not falling for two guys at the same time.” Nods, “Yes, that is just as dangerous to your health as what’s waiting for you in the water. But, you won’t find out about that until April 1st.”
